In summer 2016 I went back to Honduras, where I participated in biodiversity surveys of bat species in the cloud forest in 2014. I was able to do some mist-netting there, and saw some amazing bats from the family Phyllostomidae. My favorite bat was the wrinkle-faced bat, Centurio senex, which is the only member of the genus Centurio. The wrinkled flaps of skin help them consume every last drop of the fruits they eat (overripe bananas, mangoes, etc). They can also eat hard fruits, because their shortened jaw gives them a strong bite. Very cute, don't you think?
