Counting Bats at Maternity Colonies in NH

This summer, I will be monitoring a maternity colony of bats in New Hampshire. The site is a large old barn, where Big Brown bats (Eptesicus fuscus) have been coming to have their pups for many years. I am hoping to discover some Little Brown bats (Myotis lucifugus) in the group, since they are the ones who have been decimated by WNS. I will count bats emerging from the barn early in the season, after they have pups, and after the pups begin to fly. This will provide baseline data on the health of this population, and will hopefully be useful in determining whether M. lucifugus have begun to recover from WNS.
